This is a favorite song among most American kids, especially if you grew up outside or sang campfire songs. This is not a song for the timid or if you have a weak stomach. This song will allow you to use strong emotions for learning English. You will experience joy, shock, gratuitous violence and gore. You will also have a “near death” experience! Most mothers do not like this song, most dads do. I think many children sing this song best when they are only in the company of other kids.

This is George’s first recording. He also introduces the kazoo to a world audience. It is a magical musical instrument that is second only to the “Air Guitar” for accompanying truly great music. He is a virtuoso (very good) with this wonderful instrument. At the bottom of this post is some pictures for those who wish to see this wonderful instrument.

Don’t worry, be happyOctober 26th, 2010

george

After “Amazing Grace” this song has to be my favorite song of all time. So simple and yet wise and soothing to those of us caught up in such a hectic and pressure filled world. What a great mantra. These words of advice have echoed through the ages and even by my favorite personal “Rock” star, Jesus. I think the most recent one who coined (made popular) the phrase: Don’t worry - be happy, was an Indian mystic and sage named Meher Baba .

This song uses a lot of repetition and uses some simple phrases to bring additional meaning to the basic theme/phrase of the title. It is also a soothing melody that compliments the message of the song. Those who are learning English are under such pressure. I hope my constant core message, as in this song, comes through to them. Let go of the terrible pressures and burden that modern education places on you. Learning is and adventure, fun and a natural state of being. DON”T worry about it, let life happen, and BE HAPPYYYYYYYYYYY!!!!!!!!!!

I Walk the LineOctober 25th, 2010

george

When you talk about the “Man in Black” most Americans would say Johnny Cash is whom you are referring to. He even wrote a great song explaining his wearing of black. I knew Johnny Cash casually. When I first got out of the Army I went to Nashville (home of country music), Tennessee. We both went to the same church.

He was about as down-to-earth as a guy could get. He did not try to impress you with his fame, just a “good old boy” who genuinely liked people. Many do not know that he had a very strong faith paradigm. His troubles in life were great for writing of songs, yet many of the songs also served a dual purpose of speaking both to his loved ones and his God.

If you look into John’s history you will see this song certainly serves a dual purpose. He is talking both to his wife (June Carter Cash) and his other beloved, his God. Both had to extend a lot of grace and patience to him but we all benefit from the narrative of the those relationships via his songs.

PS A recent movie “Walk the Line” gives a great view of his life and relationship with June Carter Cash. They do not go into his faith walk but they did a good job with giving you a taste of the man behind the scenes. And the story behind the songs.
